South Dakota's First Children's Museum Now Open in Brookings
South Dakota's First Children's Museum Now Open in Brookings
South Dakota's First Children's Museum Now Open in Brookings By Jesse Batson For hundreds of kids in Brookings, today was all about education, through a lot of fun. The learning didn't happen in school, but in the new South Dakota Children's Museum. KDLT's Jesse Batson gives us a look at the place where learning equals fun. "Welcome to the SD Children's Museum, where imagination is as big as our skies," said the museum's Executive Director Suzanne Hegg. It's the first and only of it's kind in the entire state. A museum just for kids. Where else can a grade schooler beat a SDSU Softball player in a chin up competition? "She wiped me out completely. We were going at it and then she, I looked over, and she was going double my speed. I was like 'There's no way I'm going to win,'" said Pam Nicholson, member of the SDSU softball team. The South Dakota Children's Museum started as an idea from one parent and, thanks to funding from the Larson family of Brookings, is now a reality. "It's been four years and it's been a lot of hard work. It's a very complicated project for all the designers and the contractors and they did a great job, so we're really happy with it," said Oscar Larson. The museum isn't a place to stand around. The exhibits are made to be interactive. "We know that children learn naturally through play so we planned this museum very carefully to stimulate their curiousity and their ability to solve problems," said Hegg. There are already a few favorites exhibits ...

On the outside, there's nothing special about Samsung's latest 4G phone, and its 1GHz hardware gets the back burner to the latest dual-cores. But it's the Exhibit 4G's $80 price tag after a $50 mail-in rebate that sets it apart from the rest of the 4G market. And why is that? It's currently the cheapest 4G phone in existence. In fact, it's $50 cheaper than T-Mobile's myTouch 4G and Sidekick 4G. Of course, you can get the Galaxy S 4G for free with a 2-year contract online, but the Exhibit 4G is accessible anywhere for 80 smackers. Panda Cub Debut
Panda Cub Debut
San Diego Zoo visitors were able to see the "precious" 20-week-old giant panda cub for the first time beginning this weekend. Zhen Zhen (pronounced jun jun), which means precious in Chinese, will make her first public appearance Saturday, Dec. 21 and will continue to be on exhibit 9 to 11 am daily while her walking and climbing skills improve. Keepers say they expect Zhen Zhen and her mother Bai Yun may decide to extend the hours the pair spends outdoors as the cub begins to feel more comfortable maneuvering around her new environment. Only in the last two weeks has Zhen Zhen begin to explore areas outside of the den. Her mother, Bai Yun, has been spending more time outdoors eating and sleeping. Friday a few special guests got a sneak peek at the cub, watching her explore her new surroundings and practicing her climbing skills. Bai Yun and the cub can be seen 24 hours a day through the Zoo's Panda Cam at www.sandiegozoo.org.

Sloan Museum - Art, Cars, & Stars Exhibit
Journey through history to unveil the story behind a true American legacy. General Motors Art, Cars and Stars is a unique exhibit suitable for all ages, created for the Sloan Museum by Motorcities Dreamakers and supported by Fifth Third Bank. The display was designed to entertain and educate visitors to the Sloan Museum in a compelling, visual celebration of more than 100 years of General Motors history. The exhibit grew as a collaboration between the Sloan and Motorcities Dreamakers to honor the success of GM while increasing attendance and adding a new dimension in gift shop revenue. Motorcities Dreamakers managed every aspect of this exclusive display from the formation of all printed materials (including the linear timeline surrounding the outside of the exhibit) to the selection, procurement and placement of the featured vehicles and art itself. The design and production of the exhibit was developed from over a year of researching archival materials, reviewing historical artifacts and documenting narratives with the direct involvement of local and national automotive historians. The entire 16-week exhibit/display features 120 works of art from 37 contributing artists. Motorcities Dreamakers commissioned original artwork and unearthed rare and seldom-seen pieces for and, along with the GM Heritage Center has coordinated various historical vehicles that represent significant milestones in GMs legacy. www.motorcitiesdreamakers.com

First Piece Of King Tut Exhibit On Display At DIA (DENVER AIRPORT 2 JUNE 2010)
DENVER AIRPORT 2 JUNE 2010 The big King Tut exhibit doesn't open at the Denver Art Museum until the end of the month, but the first piece is already on display, standing tall outside Denver International Airport. It is an exhibition of royal artifacts thousands of years in the making and it's never been seen in Denver before and will never be again -- "Tutankhamun the Golden King and the Great Pharaoh." One of the biggest sculptures from a new exhibit of ancient Egypt was unveiled Wednesday at the airport to kickoff the event. In a mere 27 days Denver will go Tut crazy. The installation of the 7-ton, 26-foot tall statue of Anubis took place at the south end of the DIA terminal. Anubis was the ancient Egyptian god of the afterlife. "It's an exhibition of about 100 objects, both from King Tut's tomb, and 2000 years of ancient Egyptian history. And it really walks people through what pharaohs' life was like, what families' life was like; and then you'll actually go down some stairs and into a space that's basically a replicated tomb of King Tutankhamun and see about 50 or so objects from the King's tomb," Kristy Bassuener with the Denver Art Museum said. The polyurethane and steel structure took some time and effort to build. The wind blew it around and a crane got stuck in the gravel, but Anubis would not be denied. "These objects are incredibly important. They very rarely travel outside of Egypt. They are priceless treasures from long ago," Bassuener said. "This is the ...
